In the collective imaginary, Nepal is a land of pristine nature, temples and sacred sites. Few people are acquainted with the other side of the picture: a land devastated by plastic and rubbish generated by mass tourism and the rapid spread of consumption in a civilization that is still archaic. Starting in 2011, a group of volunteers, known as the Green Soldiers, began gathering the trash abandoned on the peaks of the Himalayas and in Nepal’s sacred areas. Today, after years of collecting garbage, they want to leave a lasting mark, re-appropriate an ancient symbol and reconstruct harmony and beauty, starting from something that is universally considered waste…

It hasn’t rained for years and the Earth has dried out. Human beings live in cliffs. One day, Riham finds his father dying in the desert. The boy decides to look for water to save him. His sister Marine wants to prevent him because the sun makes people go crazy. However, a mysterious engineer maintains that he knows where the water is hiding.

The Earth is not habited any more. There is no air to breathe. No water, no vegetation. But from time to time among waste and barren soils there appears strange metal flowers – as if it is ones desperate effort to revive the dead nature.

The Organisation of the European Capital of Culture PAFOS2017, in the framework of Akamas Project, a multidimensional project for the protection of natural areas and the sustainable development of the communities of the Akamas peninsula, invites you to the “Akamas Eco Film Festival 2017” that will take place from the 9th until the 13th of August 2017, in different communities of Akamas.
The programme of the festival includes awarded documentaries, short films and animation films of ecological interest, aiming to the public awareness concerning the planet’s contemporary environmental problems. The festival is organised for the first time in the communities of Akamas and is addressed to the residents and visitors of Akamas, of all ages.
The screenings will take place in the following communities of Akamas area: Neo Chorio, Droushia, Pano Arodes, Pegeia and Kathikas.

Screenings start at 20:00
Free Entrance
With Greek and English subtitles.
