Life After Death
Duration: 4th July – 30th July 2017, Monday – Friday 10:00 – 13:00, 16:00 – 20:00
This significant exhibition is the result of the collaboration between the two European Capitals of Culture, Pafos2017 and Aarhus2017 and constitutes a cultural approach to preserving the memory of the deceased through art and burial traditions in Cyprus from antiquity to our days, while special references are made to other monotheistic religions. A section of the exhibition is dedicated to the existing relations with the Holy Land, Denmark and Aarhus2017.
The general curators of the exhibition in Pafos are Dr. Charalambos Hotzakoglou and Dr. Ioannis Iliades of the Society of Cyprus Studies and of the exhibition in Aarhus, Dr. ton Otto, Professor at the University of Aarhus and Head of the Ethnography Department of the Moesgaard Museum.
The exhibition features sacred relics and exhibits from important institutions and private collectors, while it also includes works of modern art from Cyprus and Denmark, presenting the views on life after death, rooting in the traditions and worldview of modern artists. The exhibition in Denmark is under the curatorship of Ane Bonde Rolsted and Ditte Lyngkaer Pedersen, while Cypriot artists Yiannos Economou, Rinos Stefani, Susan Vargas and Ergenz M. Komazel will be participating.
