Schools in Action

The Organisation European Capital of Culture Pafos2017 encourages actions and projects for the Open Air Factory that can be developed in the schools Pafos in order to engage and involve students of Primary and Secondary Education in a parallel programme of events during the European Capital of Culture that Pafos will host in 2017.

Based on standards set by the EU and the goals of the Pafos2017 community involvement programme, the Organisation has devised a special programme for the induction and involvement of pupils in both Primary and Secondary schools, through proposals that can be developed and realized by the teachers and students in cooperation with Pafos2017.

For this purpose the Ministry of Education and Culture seconded to the Organisation four teachers (one from Secondary and three from Primary) who now form the link between schools and the Organisation in order to further the development and coordination of the activities of the programme.

The Pafos2017 “SCHOOLS IN ACTION” programme commenced in 2014, where through presentations and a specially prepared Teachers Manual issued by the Pafos2017 Organisation, educators of both Primary and Secondary Education were briefed about the scope of the Pafos2017 cultural programme and the school programme initiative.

From the 2015-16 school year, the Pafos2017 interactive educational programme has commenced in the 4th and 5th grades of Primary schools, as well as the development of coordinated projects in both Primary and Secondary schools. The four seconded teachers will guide and coordinate the actions of each school with the plan to develop and to create partnerships that will encourage bigger and more substantial interschool activities and events for 2017.

The involvement of students in the programme of the European Capital of Culture Pafos2017 is considered of the utmost importance given that perhaps the greatest challenge of the institution is the cultural involvement of young people, who will form the European society of the future.
